I am delighted to have my painting True North Strong and Free chosen to be included in the Salt Spring Art Award Exhibition 2017. It was one of 51 pieces juried from over 2,400 submissions from across Canada.

'True North Strong and Free' was inspired by images of thousands of desperate refugees risking their lives on precarious boats attempting to cross the Mediterranean to what they hope will be a better life in Europe. In contrast, in a peaceful secluded West Coast bay, the viewer watches through the trees as swimmers enjoy their safety under the ghost like image of an elk, a personal metaphor for Canada.
