After 28 years of teaching Painting, Drawing and Senior Studio, I am retiring. I finished teaching my last classes on April 4th. and officially retiring from Kwantlen Polytechnic University on August 30th. It has all gone by in a flash, giving me great memories of countless students who taught me about cultural diversity and how at heart, as humans, we are all the same. I am so grateful to have started teaching at the age of 28 years old and have grown with Kwantlen which was a Community College back then, to become a large and vibrant Polytechnic University in Surrey, one of the fastest growing cities in Canada.
I am so excited to be entering my third phase, the third - third and with any luck will have, like my vibrant Mother thirty more productive years. This next phase will be about making art and exploration, stuff I have put off doing because of life's distractions or fears...
In my bag, I carry around a worn postcard of Goya's Regocijo (joy) that happy, leaping, older couple makes me laugh and reminds me to look for the joy regardless of all the bad news that is thrown at us daily.
A huge thank you to my faculty, friends, present and former students of KPU, see you on social media!
